Poor Home Record Costly to Phoenix Suns Playoff Chances

Going into the 2010-2011 season, it was hard to find a better home team than the Phoenix Suns over the previous six season. The Suns had won at least 30 games at home in five of those six seasons and in the lone season where they didn’t, they won a very respectable 28, missing out on the postseason.
The team in the purple and orange took a big step backwards this season. Phoenix went only 23-18 at U.S. Airways Center, which was tied for the 11th best home record in the Western Conference. Their record was tied with the Clippers, who ended up with only 32 wins combined. The 23 wins were the lowest total since the Suns won only 18 back in the 2003-2004 season. (more…)
Nash-less Phoenix Suns Stave Off Elimination
The Suns finally won a game without their start point guard Steve Nash in their 111-98 victory over the LA Clippers on Friday night. Unfortunately, it comes a few weeks too late with Phoenix now all but out of the playoff picture.
The home team had a pretty comfortable lead throughout the night. After a two-point lead after the first 12 minutes, the Suns had a big second quarter outscoring the Clips 32-21 thanks especially to the great play of their second unit. Phoenix put it on cruise control during the second half to grab their 37th victory of the season. (more…)
Phoenix Suns Drop Fourth Straight Game
With the playoffs all but out of reach, the main thing that the Suns have to do is compete night in and night out to close out the season. They did it for 36 minutes tonight against the Thunder, but laid a stinker in the fourth quarter in their 116-98 defeat for their fourth straight loss.
Going into the fourth, Phoenix only trailed OKC by six, but a quick run in the first couple of minutes of the quarter by the Thunder put the game out of reach for the Suns. At the 1:05 mark, lead official Ken Mauer ejected both Zabian Dowdell and Aaron Brooks out of the game in a move that you never see. The ejections will result in fines for both players. You have to feel for Dowdell, who is only making the league minimum. (more…)
Aaron Brooks Suspended for Los Angeles Clippers Game
For the second time this season, Aaron Brooks will miss a game due to a suspension. The Suns point guard is likely suspended for throwing the ball toward an official after turning the ball over out of bounds during Friday night’s contest against Golden State.
Brooks was suspended back in February when he was a Rocket as well for walking off the court during the fourth quarter before the game was over. Fortunately for the Suns, they are one of the few teams in the league that carry three point guards. Zabian Dowdell, who has played exceptionally well when given the opportunity, will be Steve Nash’s backup today in Los Angeles against the Clippers. Brooks will still be with his teammates in LA. Balanced Attack Ends Phoenix Suns Losing Skid
Five Suns would score in double figures and Phoenix would go on to cruise for an easy 108-97 win last night over the Golden State Warriors. The victory snapped the Suns four-game losing streak.
In his return from a dislocated shoulder, Channing Frye didn’t miss a beat and was tied with two other Suns with 17 points. He also chipped in nine rebounds and made three of his six three-point attempts. Steve Nash and Grant Hill were the two others that totaled 17 points a piece. Nash appeared to be closer to 100 percent health with 10 assists and six rebounds as well. (more…)
