Phoenix Suns Offseason Priorities: Starting Power Forward

Channing Frye was great last season, but the Suns should still look for an upgrade. (Photo Courtesy of Chelsea, Flickr)
When Amar’e Stoudemire left for the Big Apple, the Suns were left with a huge hole at the power forward spot. Nearly a year since STAT joined the Knicks, the organization is still looking for a starting caliber player at that spot.
During last offseason, Phoenix acquired Hedo Turkoglu from Toronto to place him in Stoudemire’s old spot. In only 25 games in a Suns uniform, the Turkoglu experiment at the four spot was a complete disaster. The undersized Turkoglu failed to get comfortable offensively and was a liability defensively against many teams power forwards. In the first installment of the Lord of The Rings trilogy, elf archer Legolas wistfully decries ‘I lament for Gandalf’ as he seeks comfort in the woods of Lothlorien after a fierce battle that results in Gandalf’s demise. If you’re just tuning into theĀ Suns Zoo, here is the breakdown. (more…)
Turnovers, Poor Third Quarter Cost Phoenix Suns
Need one word to describe the Suns efforts in last nights game? Pathetic.
Trailing from the start, a poor third quarter in which they were outscored by 14 in 12 minutes helped put the Suns away for good. Denver would go on to win 116-97. Fortunately for Phoenix, Denver took some mercy on the Suns in the fourth quarter. A 19-point difference was no indication how much of a blowout this game was. (more…)
What’s RIGHT with the Suns?
There are more than enough answers to the question ‘What’s wrong with the Suns?’ to fill multiple blogs, how about accentuating the positive for once? What are the Suns doing right? While this may be a shorter answer than the former question, there is always a silver lining and I’m happy to share it with you.
1. Can I write Steve Nash 100 times and have that be 100 reasons? No? Okay, but he is reason numero uno. Nash is still a Suns and he gives his team a fighting chance in every game. If the others show up and play as hard as he does, the Suns can make the playoffs this season. (more…)
