Michael Pietrus Picks up Player Option to Return Next Season

Just because he picked up his player option, doesn't mean Mickael Pietrus will be back in Phoenix next season. (Photo Courtesy of AnacondaHL, Flickr)
To surprise of no one within the Suns organization, forward Mickael Pietrus picked up his $5.3 million player option to return next season. Pietrus was of the deal with that Magic that brought Marcin Gortat and Vince Carter over to Phoenix.
In 38 games in Phoenix, Pietrus had a difficult time in a Suns uniform adjusting to a new head coach and a new system. His point and rebounding totals were some of the lowest of his entire eight-year NBA career. Things only got worse for Pietrus when he missed the final 12 games of the regular season due a quadriceps injury. (more…)
Why the Phoenix Suns Should Trade up in the NBA Draft?
The NBA draft is a couple weeks away and with the impending arrival of point guard Ricky Rubio, the Minnesota Timberwolves are shopping the second pick in the draft. Minnesota already has Jonny Flynn, Wayne Ellington, Sebastian Telfair and Luke Ridnour as guards so they will be looking to add talent at other positions and probably deal a guard or two.
Of course, every team behind them will be looking to move up and the Suns will be one of the teams looking to make a deal. The 13th pick is the only pick the Suns have in this draft so why not try to move up and get that impact player now. The question is who should the Suns go after? Here are my top five suggestions. It is no secret how bad the Suns were defensively this past season. Phoenix had the NBA’s fifth-worst defensive field goal percentage at 47.2, they were second in points allowed behind only the Minnesota Timberwolves and 23rd in the league in rebounding.
With how poor defensively his team was last season, head coach Alvin Gentry is looking to add a defensive-minded assistant to his staff. Gentry has said whoever he hires would act as his “defensive coordinator.” (more…)
A Look Forward to the Phoenix Suns Offseason
Now that the season is over we come upon another season of tumult. The burning question is do we reload or rebuild. There is a core that can be built around but before construction, there must first be deconstruction.
Last season the question was keep Amar’e Stoudemire or let him walk. This season the same question lingers over Steve Nash. What should the Suns do this offseason? Here is a player-by-player breakdown of The Greg One’s plan for Suns improvement, starting at the top. (more…)
Phoenix Suns Offseason Priorities: Keep Grant Hill
The Suns will have some big decisions ahead of them this offseason, but keeping Grant Hill in Phoenix is the easiest decision that Robert Sarver and company will have to make over the summer.
Despite being 38 years old heading into last season, the veteran had arguably his best season since he came to the Valley of the Sun. Hill put up his best totals in points since coming to Phoenix and wasn’t too far behind in rebounds and assists. However, it was what the small forward did at the other end of the court that made him so valuable and helped made the Suns respectable in 2010-2011. (more…)
