It’s the eve of the draft and the Phoenix Suns will be on the clock with the 13th pick if they do not find a way to move up. The Greg One has already gone on record as a member of the Jimmer Fredette fan club. However, with Utah one pick ahead of the Suns and the growing interest Fredette is getting from teams in the top ten, it looks like there is no way he will make it to the Valley if the Suns don’t move up.

So once and for all, after watching the draft boards, the televised coverage, the rumor mill and listening to Suns brass on the local airwaves, here is my prediction for the thirteenth pick. Drumroll please. (more…)

Jonny Flynn

With Ricky Rubio finally ready to come over to the States to play in the NBA, the Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to move Jonny Flynn, who was picked in the same draft as Rubio back in 2009. Several reports on the web have the Suns as one of the four interested teams in Flynn’s services.

Phoenix was very high on Flynn before that draft two years ago. They brought him in for pre-draft workouts, but the Suns on draft night instead decided on not trading up to get him at the sixth pick and took Earl Clark with the 14th pick. Hindsight being 20/20, that Clark pick turned out to be a poor decision. (more…)

Turnovers, Poor Third Quarter Cost Phoenix Suns

Need one word to describe the Suns efforts in last nights game? Pathetic.

Trailing from the start, a poor third quarter in which they were outscored by 14 in 12 minutes helped put the Suns away for good. Denver would go on to win 116-97. Fortunately for Phoenix, Denver took some mercy on the Suns in the fourth quarter. A 19-point difference was no indication how much of a blowout this game was. (more…)

Breaking Down The Aaron Brooks/Goran Dragic Trade

At the Thursday trade deadline the Phoenix Suns traded reserve point guard Goran Dragic and a first round pick to Houston for point guard Aaron Brooks. Satan must be ice skating right now because the Suns actually made a good basketball decision! This is a great trade on a number of levels.

Dragic has been erratic at best. His performance on the court has gone down since last season’s playoffs. As Steve Nash’s heir apparent, he wasn’t improving at the level Suns management expected. When interviewed on the subject, coach Alvin Gentry credited the trade as being based on consistency. Dragic was very inconsistent and the Suns bench unit actually performed better with Zabian Dowdell running the reserves than with Dragic. The youngster may eventually blossom into a true NBA point guard but he’s all potential at this point and nothing more. In a wide open race among the final five teams challenging for a spot in the Western Conference playoffs, a strengthening of the second unit was just what the doctor ordered. (more…)

Greg Williams breaking down the Suns/Magic trade

On Friday, Dec. 17 the Phoenix Suns agreed on a six player blockbuster trade with the Orlando Magic. The Suns sent leading scorer Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu and Earl Clark to Orlando for Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat and Mickael Pietrus and Orlando’s 2011 first round draft pick. This trade has been described as surprising, shocking, needed, great, unnecessary and brilliant. Of course a couple of those words are intended for one side more than the other. The Greg One has a different word for this trade. (more…)
