Why the Phoenix Suns Shouldn’t Draft Jimmer Fredette
My blogging counterpart Greg Williams wrote yesterday on why the Suns should draft Jimmer Fredette in the upcoming draft later this month. Even though I personally like Fredette, I don’t think the Suns should draft him and go in a different with their one and only pick in this year’s draft.
Of course, there are a lot of things to like about Fredette. The first thing you notice about him is the eye-popping numbers that he produced in his senior season at BYU. He scored 20+ points in 35 of his 37 games played. Some of his most impressive feats include 47 points against Utah, 42 against Colorado State, 43 against San Diego State and 52 against New Mexico. Should the Phoenix Suns draft Jimmer Fredette?
The Phoenix Suns have the 13th pick in the NBA draft and the name most often tied to the Suns selection is James Taft ‘Jimmer’ Fredette of BYU. Fredette led the Cougars as their all-everything point guard and as the season progressed ‘Jimmermania’ swept the land.
Fredette consistently scored in the high 30′s and mid 40′s in the face of double and triple teams. He led the nation in scoring and led BYU’s high scoring offense to seventh in the nation. At the end of the season, the guard was crowned as the unanimous Player of the Year in addition to winning several other prestigious player of the year titles like Wooden Award, Naismith trophy and Adolph Rupp trophy among others. Despite the disappointment of not making the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, Phoenix still had many bright spots and some surprises throughout the 2010-2011 campaign. I will take a look at who deserved some of those accolades this season. (more…)
NBA Playoffs: Predicting The First Round
The Suns are already looking toward next season, but more than half of the NBA will be playing games this weekend to fight to play well into June for a chance at a NBA championship. I am going to look at each first round series and give my thoughts and predictions for each. Don’t hold me to these predictions when these series are over. I am no Nostradamus after all.
Phoenix Suns Showing Fight, Heart to Close Out Season
With the season all but over, the Suns could have very easily packed things up and started making their plans for the long summer ahead, but with just one game left, they have done no such thing.
If you just look at their record during the month of April, you would probably want me to be drug tested. Phoenix’s lone victories this month have come to the lowly Los Angeles Clippers and two victories against the Minnesota Timberwolves, one of which came last night in a thrilling game. Their losses have come mostly to playoff bound teams and several of them have been blowouts. (more…)
