Poor Home Record Costly to Phoenix Suns Playoff Chances

Going into the 2010-2011 season, it was hard to find a better home team than the Phoenix Suns over the previous six season. The Suns had won at least 30 games at home in five of those six seasons and in the lone season where they didn’t, they won a very respectable 28, missing out on the postseason.
The team in the purple and orange took a big step backwards this season. Phoenix went only 23-18 at U.S. Airways Center, which was tied for the 11th best home record in the Western Conference. Their record was tied with the Clippers, who ended up with only 32 wins combined. The 23 wins were the lowest total since the Suns won only 18 back in the 2003-2004 season. (more…)
NBA Playoffs: Predicting The First Round
The Suns are already looking toward next season, but more than half of the NBA will be playing games this weekend to fight to play well into June for a chance at a NBA championship. I am going to look at each first round series and give my thoughts and predictions for each. Don’t hold me to these predictions when these series are over. I am no Nostradamus after all.
Game Preview: San Antonio Spurs at Phoenix Suns
The Suns will be hosting the rival Spurs tonight for the last game of the 2010/2011season. Even though this is a meaningless game for Phoenix, you can still expect them to come out and compete against public enemy #1 for Suns fans.
With this being the last game of the year for both teams, the Spurs still have something to play for. San Antonio is tied with Chicago for the best overall record in the league. While the Spurs will be in Phoenix, the Bulls will be in New Jersey to face the lowly Nets. Some believe that homecourt advantage doesn’t mean a lot in the playoffs, but it doesn’t hurt to have Game 7 of the NBA Finals on your home floor. (more…)
Phoenix Suns Showing Fight, Heart to Close Out Season
With the season all but over, the Suns could have very easily packed things up and started making their plans for the long summer ahead, but with just one game left, they have done no such thing.
If you just look at their record during the month of April, you would probably want me to be drug tested. Phoenix’s lone victories this month have come to the lowly Los Angeles Clippers and two victories against the Minnesota Timberwolves, one of which came last night in a thrilling game. Their losses have come mostly to playoff bound teams and several of them have been blowouts. (more…)
Phoenix Suns Pull Off Near Miracle Comeback
The Suns showed heart once again on the road by cutting a 22-point deficit to two with under a minute remaining, but ran out of gas in the end in their 97-94 loss to the Bulls in Chicago.
After a solid first quarter, the Suns had a extremely poor second quarter, being outscored 28-16 to give the Bulls a 13-point lead heading into the half. The Bulls had a great quarter thanks to their ability to get to the free-throw line. Chicago shot 20 attempts from the free-throw stripe compared to just two for Phoenix during the 12 minutes. Robin Lopez’s four fouls in a three-minute stretch during the quarter helped the home team get to the line early and often. (more…)
