The Suns finally won a game without their start point guard Steve Nash in their 111-98 victory over the LA Clippers on Friday night. Unfortunately, it comes a few weeks too late with Phoenix now all but out of the playoff picture.

The home team had a pretty comfortable lead throughout the night. After a two-point lead after the first 12 minutes, the Suns had a big second quarter outscoring the Clips 32-21 thanks especially to the great play of their second unit. Phoenix put it on cruise control during the second half to grab their 37th victory of the season. (more…)

Phoenix Suns Drop Fourth Straight Game

With the playoffs all but out of reach, the main thing that the Suns have to do is compete night in and night out to close out the season. They did it for 36 minutes tonight against the Thunder, but laid a stinker in the fourth quarter in their 116-98 defeat for their fourth straight loss.

Going into the fourth, Phoenix only trailed OKC by six, but a quick run in the first couple of minutes of the quarter by the Thunder put the game out of reach for the Suns. At the 1:05 mark, lead official Ken Mauer ejected both Zabian Dowdell and Aaron Brooks out of the game in a move that you never see. The ejections will result in fines for both players. You have to feel for Dowdell, who is only making the league minimum. (more…)

For the first time in several years, there won’t be a Sun participating in one of the All-Star Saturday Night competitions, but it still will be worth watching. What is there to watch for and who should be favored in each challenge? I will take a look. (more…)

After a few days of technical problems, we are back up and running here at Suns Zoo. I missed a few games, but the Suns sure didn’t skip a beat in their two victories. Yours truly will be in attendance for tonight’s game against the Kings. The Suns are looking to continue on with their hot play against a poor Kings team tonight.

Sacramento has struggled since these two teams faced off with one another back in early January when the Suns blew a big lead late in the fourth quarter. One of the few bright spots though has been DeMarcus Counsins. With increased playing time, the rookie has lived up to his fifth overall billing so far. He has had a double-double in each of his last three games and five in his past seven. If it weren’t for Blake Griffin, he would definitely be in the discussion for rookie of the year. (more…)

No Suns named to NBA All-Star roster

For the first time since 2004, no member of the Suns will be making an appearance in a NBA All-Star game. The starters for the game in Los Angeles that will take place Feb. 20 were named last week and the reserves for both the Eastern and Western Conference were named today.

Of course, the most logical name that could have made it was Steve Nash. The seven-time All-Star missed out on the roster to point guards Deron Williams and Russell Westbrook. There is a slight chance that Nash could still make the roster though because Williams has missed the past four games with an injury and Yao Ming will need a replacement on the roster. There would be no certainty that Nash would take the spot and might opt to take off the four days during the break for some much needed rest. (more…)
